#16/20 – SEO is not as important as they say it is.

SEO is not as important as they say it is.

This story about a baker is why πŸ‘‡

I first heard this story from Seth Godin, one of my favourite authors…

Before he died, Lionel PoilΓ’ne was probably the number one baker in Paris.

He supplied all the Michelin-starred restaurants.

And raked in about $10 million per year selling bread.

But if you went to Paris and Googled β€œbaguette”

Lionel was nowhere near the top.

And that’s just how he liked it.

Because the only people who Googled β€œbaguette” were those looking for the generic kind.

And Lionel didn’t make the generic kind.

Lionel’s customers were looking for β€œLionel PoilΓ’ne”.

Because, before he built a website, he built a reputation for making remarkable bread.

And that’s your SEO strategy in a nutshell.

There’s no SEO fairy dust to propel you to the top.

Instead, create a remarkable service that sets you apart.

So that your name is not connected to the generic but is famous for something specific.

As Zig Ziglar said:

β€œIt’s better to be a meaningful specific than a wandering generality.”

That’s why SEO is not as important as they say it is.
